just coffee

Okay okay… that was easy. But seriously, have you ever walked in a “fast coffee shop” ? I called them “fast” because it reminds me of the “fast food” version of a café place. Here in Switzerland (and Europe, beside UK) we’re not so used to these fast coffee shop such as Starbucks, Café Nero, Costa Café, Coffee Republica etc etc (omg so many…).

They have so many choices that it actually takes a deep look at their coffee board to order something. I remember the time when I used to go to a “café” and ordered a [spoiler alert] coffee… It didn’t take a police investigation to know how I wanted it.

Also I might be tough on the cashier on the strip because most of them actually have a smile on their face when I order but every once in a while, I do get that “I-hate-my-life-what-the-fuck-am-I-doing-working-here” face. It’s just funny… if you don’t like it, change job.

When Starbucks first came in Switzerland, you’d see people taking away coffee to the office in the morning. I’m sure it gave them the feeling to be in a cool city like New York pretending to be too busy to have a sit and drink coffee. Idiots.

Anyway, I’m guessing that the abundant choice is here for one purpose and one only : super extra overly charged coffee!

Ahah, you can adapt it the same way to the italian bar : caffè, ristretto, cappuccino, caffè macchiato, caffè schiumato (the one I used to drink, pretty different of macchiato), caffè latte, caffè corretto, caffè al vetro (the cup changes but it’s a regular coffee), etc. And in an italian bar, the cashier has very often this kind of face – I-don’t-give-a-shit-to be-nice-service-is-a-notion-unknown-to-me-(and-in-Italy-in-general).
