job connexion

There’s a huuuge unnecessary drama going on in France with the president and his son.

In short, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has nominated his son, Jean Sarkozy (23 years old), to a very desirable and high position as the president of some economic center in Paris.

So fucking what?

Well, it seems that all of the sudden, people are discovering for the first time that there are individuals who take advantage of their networking to get a job. Reallyyyy?

Here’s the deal, I don’t care so much about Jean Sarkozy… he can be an idiot or a genius, networking (fair or not) has existed for a long ass time. Myself, I’ve seen it happen many many times throughout my career. When I left “Honda motorcycle Switzerland” as the head of web, they hired someone who has no diploma and no experience (didn’t even know the difference between saving a file locally or on a ftp server…) but he got the job because his friend was the team leader. Same at the bank, I’ve seen people recruiting others just because they had the same nationality.

Unfair? sure. Real world? Hell yeah. That’s the way it is. You know the right people, you get away with murder, literally. Some would work their ass off all their life to achieve averagely, and others would only need to be cry babies to reach that same level. So really, being the president’s son of course will have obvious advantages…

Sure, Nicolas Sarkozy could have done this under the table… but really, you think that the whistle would have never been blown? Soon or later, noisy reporters would have found out so might as well be blunt and openly nominate Jean Sarkozy. I mean for fuck sake, that nomination even went on the news in CHINA! Seriously guys, who gives a damn about Jean Sarkozy… you don’t need to go that far and that high to see that everyday, people get jobs because they know someone. I’ll go even further, if you’re even qualified for the job, then good! and if you’re not… then yeah… little cry baby…

    I know what you mean. I also despise incompetent people who get jobs just because they know someone. Worst are the ones who even believe they are qualified when they’re obviously not. Happened to my sis, her colleague is a total moron, didn’t go to college and got a higher position because his buddy is in HR. Truely pathetic.

    Yes I hear you Kristine but tell your sister that these people have to live with themselves everyday. Worming your way into a job you don’t deserve… believe me they know how pathetic it is.

    Je suis d’accord, ce genre de trucs scandaleux arrivent très souvent. Mais il y a une différence entre un directeur d’entreprise qui pistonne son fils pour un poste et un président de la république qui pistonne son fils pour la direction de la Défense, qui est une énorme responsabilité. Les conséquences d’un tel emploi pourraient être assez désastreuses compte tenu de l’importance de la Défense à Paris. Enfin bon, c’est comme ça que ça marche, c’est sûr, mais ça montre encore une fois la stupidité de ce président qui a lancé récemment dans un discours : “Ce qui compte en France, pour réussir, ce n’est plus d’être bien né, c’est d’avoir travaillé dur et d’avoir fait la preuve par ses études de sa valeur”.

    Ses propos sont clairement contradictoires, c’est sûr. Maintenant, si le petit Sarkozy (le fils, pas le père hein…. ) est élu (probablement…) il siègera avec un “board” qui rassemblera des experts et des conseillers qui diront quoi faire. En fin de compte, il aura juste à dire “oui” ou “non” en suivant leur avis. Probablement pas le job le plus difficile… mais rendu médiatiques de part son statut.

    Ca ne me dérange pas tant que les gens soient contre. Perso je suis aussi d’avis qu’il n’aurait jamais eu la chance de postuler s’il ne s’appelait pas “Sarkozy”. Par contre là où ça me fait bien marrer c’est que les gens s’offusquent que cela puisse se produire… Enfin bon, que les opportunistes de ce genre crève.

    ======================

    The French president’s speech was clearly contradictory (ie he said “what matters in France is that to be successful, it’s not a matter of being born right, but to have worked hard and to show yourself worthy by you studies”).

    Now let’s face it, if little Sarkozy (the son, not the dad) is elected, he will rule with a board around him that will advise and stuff. Not the hardest job in the world, but very media centered for sure.

    It doesn’t really bother me that people are against the principle of taking advantage of his or her position because of course, he would have never been able to apply for the job if his name was Sarkozy. What makes me laugh my butt out is that people are actually shocked to see it happening… Anyway, my the opportunist of his kind eat shit and die.
